How it Works

Our Annual CPD Plan is designed to replace boring computer-based training courses with practical, engaging, live training that genuinely enhances your business, knowledge, and financial planning skills.

We run one 6-hour workshop per calendar month. All you need to do is attend SIX of them, including (if you're advising on life assurance) THREE IDD qualifying ones, to net all your CPD for the year. Although of course, you can attend as many as you like!

Once you sign up, we'll send you diary invites to the following 12 workshops. Then all you need to do is show up on the day, or view the recording in your own time.

Following each workshop, you will be sent a copy of the learning materials (such as slides and handouts), and further testing or follow-up activities required, the link to the recording, and a copy of your CPD certificate.

Live Delivery and Recordings

All workshops are delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams. Each live delivery runs from 9:30am to 4:40pm. All workshops are designed and delivered by our Managing Director, Michaela Pashley. All workshops are recorded, edited, and uploaded to YouTube via private link. So there's no portal you need to log into - just save the link to your Favourites.

CPD Records

Each workshop is designed to meet the FCA’s requirements for six (6) hours of structured CPD with comprehensive Learning Outcomes confirmed. For further information, check Professional standards: advisers | FCA

We produce your CPD record on an ongoing basis. If your Professional Body asks to see yours, all you need to do is ask us to provide it to you, and it's all there on a spreadsheet.

What's the Cost?

The cost depends on the number of Advisers you're signing up.

1 Adviser = £1,200 (£100 per month, per adviser)

2 Advisers = £1,000 each (£83.33 per month, per adviser)

3 Advisers = £800 each (£66.67 per month, per adviser)

4 Advisers or more = £600 each (£50 per month, per adviser)

You can either pay upfront for the year, or by monthly standing order. There is no interest charged or any further cost to pay monthly.

Capacity for Loss Masterclass 14/01/2026

Capacity for Loss (CFL) is a core part of a client's risk profile. Rory Percival described it as a "hard-nosed number", and the FCA has suggested the way some Advisers are calculating and evaluating CFL falls short of their expectations. We will delve deep into the FCA's guidance and provide a reliable, repeatable method of calculating CFL in any given financial planning situation.

  • What the specific guidance is on CFL - word for word - from the FCA and professional bodies such as the CII, and provide full documents and references. This includes what to do when the CFL is less than 0%, and when the client's future retirement expenditure is unknown.
  • How to calculate CFL reliably, effectively, and repeatably, for any given financial planning scenario.
  • Once calculated, how to document and evaluate CFL as compatible with the client's attitude to risk (ATR), forming a comprehensive overall risk profile.
  • How to communicate this overall risk profile evaluation compliantly within a Suitability Report.

The course has a practical element, and you'll be expected to complete the calculations and evaluations with help throughout the day, and by yourself by the end.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the guidance from the FCA and CII on CFL, including what to do when the CFL is less than 0%, and when the client's future retirement expenditure is unknown.
  2. Calculate CFL reliably, effectively, and repeatably, for any given financial planning scenario.
  3. Evaluate CFL as compatible (or not) with the client's attitude to risk (ATR), forming a comprehensive overall risk profile.
  4. Communicate this overall risk profile evaluation compliantly within a Suitability Report.

Investment Bond Masterclass 10/02/2026

With recent changes in tax rules, investment bonds are looking more attractive than they have historically. With higher rates of Capital Gains Tax (CGT), lower CGT annual exemptions, a lower Dividend Allowance, and tax on investment bonds not changing, they're turning heads of Financial Advisers and their clients. Therefore, it's the perfect time to top-up your knowledge on the subject.

In this six-hour masterclass, investment bond expert Michaela Pashley will delve deep into how bonds work, including insurable interest, segmentation, and top-slicing relief, through to more practical elements such as justifying their recommendation within a suitability report.

The course has a practical element, and you'll be expected to complete top-slicing calculations and write recommendations and evaluations with help throughout the day, and by yourself by the end.

** IDD QUALIFYING **

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the features, benefits, and disadvantages of investment bonds, including their legal structure, segmentation, insurable interest, and taxation.
  2. Evaluate the suitability of investment bonds for retail financial planning clients, including reasons why and disadvantages that might be present in a suitability report.
  3. Complete moderately-complex top-slicing relief calculations.

Cashflow Modelling (MS Excel) Masterclass 10/03/2026

We believe that MS Excel is the most flexible, powerful cashflow modelling tool in a Financial Planner's arsenal.

One retail financial planning client recently commented: "This is very different from the cashflow I've had from other Advisers who use a cashflow program. They input all the numbers and it produces a nice looking report, but it's a black box and they don't know how the figures have been produced. With your advice, I can see exactly how all the numbers have been arrived at."

In this six-hour masterclass, spreadsheet sorcerous Michaela Pashley will explain and demonstrate how to use Excel to produce stunning cashflow models, and then coach you on how to produce your own.

The course has a practical element, and you'll be expected to complete your own models and explain them in a suitability report with help throughout the day, and by yourself by the end.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Produce visually impactful deterministic cashflow models on Microsoft Excel including: preservation, growth, income, and total return objectives, single and regular premium investments, fixed term annuities, real and nominal returns, stress tests, capacity for loss, multiple income sources, including guaranteed income such as DB and state pension, and the use of relevant mathematical formulae and Excel tools and functions.
  2. Evaluate which assumptions to use for inflation, investment returns, and stress tests.
  3. Present cashflow models effectively and compliantly within suitability reports.

Pension Transfer Masterclass 14/04/2026

Defined benefit pension transfers are one of the most heavily regulated areas of financial planning, and if you're in this space, you need 15 hours per year of pension transfer-focused CPD. This workshop provides six of those hours.

If you're not in the DB transfer arena, it's still incredibly useful to keep up-to-date with how these schemes operate. You don't have to be a PTS to recommend the purchase of a lifetime annuity or give general advice on a DB scheme, such as whether the client should take their tax-free cash.

We'll be covering:

  • The regulation and guidance relevant to DB transfer advice.
  • Relevant soft and practical skills, including objective setting, and evidencing capacity for loss.
  • How CETVs, TVCs, and tax-free cash lump sums are calculated.
  • Death benefit comparison with DC schemes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the compliance and technical principles and rules behind pension transfer advice, including for financial objectives and capacity for loss.
  2. Explain the mathematics underpinning CETVs, TVCs, and PCLSs.
  3. Explain the features, benefits, and disadvantages of death benefits of defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes.

IHT Masterclass 19/05/2026

There are some huge changes in the works regarding IHT, including pensions coming more into its scope, Business Relief rates, and for non-domiciled clients.

This Masterclass aims to bring you bang up-to-date with the legislative changes, as well as providing a refresher on life assurance (including how to calculate the amount of cover needed, and no, it's not simply the current IHT with an RPI-linked policy), life office trusts, and calculations.

  • IHT calculations, incorporating pensions, NRB, RNRB, and Business Relief.
  • Residence and domicile.
  • Lifetime gifting.
  • Life assurance.
  • Absolute and discretionary trusts.
  • Gift trusts, loan trusts, DGTs, and flexible reversionary trusts.

This is essential for anyone working in the IHT space.

** IDD QUALIFYING **
